Billboard Recognizes Three Eisner Partners in 2020 Top Music Lawyers Report

July 27, 2020—Eisner, LLP partners Dan Shulman, Owen Sloane and Andy Tavel have been selected for Billboard’s annual Top Music Lawyers report. This award honors top-achieving lawyers in the music business, with a focus on their newsworthy accomplishments within the past year.

Based in the firm’s New York office, Shulman’s practice focuses on transactional entertainment, media, and intellectual property matters and includes the representation of creative individuals as well as major and independent companies in connection with all aspects of the development, production, distribution, promotion, and exploitation of intellectual property and other artistic ventures.

Throughout his over 45-year career, Sloane, based in Eisner’s Los Angeles office, has achieved a series of firsts, including negotiating a groundbreaking deal involving concert recordings on USB wristbands; negotiating the first-ever joint venture agreement with a major label for an artist-owned label in rock; and drafting the standard language, used today, for engagement agreements involving copyrighted material. He represents major artists and corporations in entertainment, Internet, and music publishing matters, and has also established himself as a go-to expert witness and litigation consultant on issues involving contracts, intellectual property rights, calculation of royalties, contracts for minors, and music industry custom and practices.

For more than three decades, Tavel, also based in New York, has been an ardent legal advocate for creators of intellectual property and entertainment entrepreneurs, with a client base spanning from emerging talent to iconic music superstars and from established companies to start-ups. He also serves on the boards of several charitable organizations in the music industry, including the T.J. Martell Foundation.
